Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What is the cost of having the attorney represent me in my immigration case?

Excellent question. Each client’s immigration case is unique—even if it seems similar to someone else’s case. Therefore, it is impossible to provide an accurate quote of the cost of representation without Attorney Lewis Shukla providing her legal analysis in a consultation.

The cost of the initial consultation is $150 and can be paid upon scheduling your consultation within the Appointments tab.

The cost of the representation can either be paid in full at the start of the representation or paid over time via payment plan.

  • How long will it take to get a decision in my immigration case?

The processing time for a submitted case can depend on where the case is being processed, which agency is reviewing the case, the complexity of the case, changes in immigration policy, and more. Oftentimes, there is very little that an attorney can do to speed up your case if the case is within a normal processing time. However, on occasion, there may be actions an attorney can take to pressure the government to make a decision in your case.

Your ability to collect all documents and information in support of your application(s) will also impact how quickly Attorney Lewis Shukla and her team can prepare the application(s) for submission.

  • Am I at risk of getting detained by ICE?

Nowadays, there is a higher risk of being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). On January 20, 2025, President Trump published Executive Order (EO) 14159 which eliminated President Biden’s ICE enforcement priorities and stated that anyone who is inadmissible or deportable may be targeted for detention by ICE, regardless of criminal history.

Additionally, President Trump removed secured space protections for schools, courthouses, hospitals, protests, and religious spaces from ICE enforcement.

The Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) has also recently published cases that make it increasingly more difficult for individuals who are in immigration detention to be released on bond.

If you or your loved one are detained, or are concerned about the risks of detention, please feel free to schedule a consultation to speak with Attorney Lewis Shukla about your unique risks of detention. Additionally, she may share resources to help you prepare, in case of detention.
